Approximate size:
- Medium: 16cm (Top) x 19cm (Base) x 9cm (height) x 5cm (depth)
- Large: 18cm (Top) x 21cm (Base) x 11cm (height) x 6cm (depth)
Boro is a Japanese word that when translated simply means rag. Historically the word has come to mean patched clothing, bags, bedding including many household items.
A utilitarian technique to keep your articles useful and warm by adding patches and stitches.
We have included two pattern sizes. Large and medium. The requirement list below shows what you need to make a large boro inspired purse and a medium sized purse using a feature fabric. These of course could be swapped around.
Requirements for a large Boro purse:
- 35cm x 35cm muslin sarashi base fabric
- 30cm fabric for lining yarn dyed make a great lining see also printed fabrics for a groovy option
- Whisperweft (lightweight iron on interfacing).
- 17cm zipper which will be shortened
- Scrap fabrics or 1 or 2 BeBe Bold boro pack
- Sashiko or crochet thread by Olympus Thread, sashiko needle by Olympus or Tulip, leather sashiko thimble, hera marker
- General sewing supplies
Requirements for a medium sized purse (if using feature fabric only):
- 30cm feature fabric that you can pick from Sarasa, Takumi,
- 30cm fabric for lining
- Iron on pellon H630
- Whisperweft (lightweight iron on interfacing).
- 15cm zipper
- General sewing supplies
