Stitch your own beautiful Hana Mado ("Flower Window") placemat.
Pre-stencilled on traditional Japanese sarashi cotton, the printed markings disappear with the first wash. Wonderfully absorbent, practical and durable, this handmade placemat will soften beautifully with every use.
Our extensive range of single-coloured and variegated sashiko threads enables you to create many unique colour and design variations which can be used simply as designed as a placemat or or table runner, or you could use the design to create the perfect sized cushions, some unique wall art, a bag, incorporate in a quilt or a garment, eg a jacket.
- Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate
- Thread Requirement: Approx. 40m of sashiko thread (or if you prefer using a fine thread you'll need one 80m ball).
- Finished Size: approx 31cm x 45cm
- Fabric: 100% sarashi cotton
Here at BeBe Bold, we stitch through both layers of fabric and then after washing you could finish your placemat by adding a fabric backing to give a bit more body to your placemat. The fabric you choose could be anything not too heavy, and we have an abundance of striped, floral and plain fabrics that would be perfect (you can see all of our fabrics here).
