Sashiko is a gentle art, adding decorative detail to fabrics through simple running stitch. Modern sashiko practise allows for a variety of styles, including traditional designs as well as more contemporary patterns and colours. There are a range of projects to choose from including our new Sashiko Tablerunner Kits with traditional Asa no ha (Hemp Leaf) pattern. There are sashiko samplers, books and chaco paper and pens for transferring designs. We recommend using sashiko needles, threads and thimbles as they are designed to work ideally for sashiko with fabrics such as tsumugi and aduminomomen. There is also a range of cotton fabrics perfect for sashiko which are either plain or stencilled with traditional sashiko designs which wash away once stitched over.
